Tomb of Benjamin Huntsman, 60m
south-east of Attercliffe Chapel

Tomb. 1760, with early C19 and late C20 additions. Ashlar. 2
inscribed slabs commemorating Benjamin Huntsman, 1704-1776,
and other members of the Huntsman family. At the head, an
early C19 table tomb with fluted scroll brackets, shaped top
and illegible inscription. Around the slabs a late C20 kerb
with a pedestal at the foot end, carrying a commemorative
plaque. Benjamin Huntsman was the inventor of crucible steel,
whose manufacture was one of Sheffield's most important and
characteristic industries from the late C18 till the late C20.
Huntsman lived and worked nearby in Worksop Road.
