Dickens and Le Metro
II
National school, now bar and restaurant. Dated 1812, with late
C20 alterations. Brick with stone dressings and hipped and
gabled slate roofs with a gable stack. Plinth, first floor
band, moulded stone eaves and gable band.
2 storeys plus basement; 6 x 6 windows. Slightly projecting
central block, 4 windows, with pediment containing a name
tablet, flanked by lower hipped wings, single windows. Central
block has four 24 pane sashes with rusticated keystone
lintels. Below, in the centre, 2 similar windows flanked by
stone doorcases with squat engaged columns and flat hoods.
Panelled double doors. Above the doors, single 16 pane sashes.
Central C20 basement entrance with steps. Each wing has a
small 16 pane sash above and a 24 pane sash below. Right
return has 6 plain sashes with rusticated keystone lintels.
Rear has 2 storey late C20 addition. Basement has 2 bay
segmental brick arches.
