Lock cottage c 1820. Regularly coursed stone with hipped stone slate roof T-shaped plan with central brick chimney stack. Two storey structure built into natural slope. Main entrance at upper floor facing lock flanked by single rectangular C20 3-light casements set in arched recess. Shallow stone parapet along main facade with pilasters at each end and slightly raised central panel. Entrance doorway C20 glazed door with pointed lead hood. One of a series of Calder and Hebble Navigation Company cottages built between 1770 and 1834. Ref: Workers' Housing in West Yorkshire 1750 -1920, RCHM 1986.
