Attached house, inn, now shop and office. Mid/late C17,
refronted early C19. Rendered front, coursed limestone rubble
sides, brick rear ridge stack and a slate roof. 2-room
parallel plan with left-hand rear wing. Forms a U-shaped plan
with No.8 (qv) suggesting an original use as an inn.
2 storeys and attic; 2-window range. A left-hand late C19 shop
front with left-hand door, plate-glass window, with an
inserted right-hand carriage archway shared with No.8 (qv);
cornice and blocking course. Tripartite 6/6-pane sashes.
Archway has heavy timber joists, sandstone sets in the
carriageway, a side entrance beyond, and the 2-window rear
wing has C19 casements.
INTERIOR: details include a C19 stair from the side entrance,
with an attic stair above parallel to the side; front 4-bay
roof divided by a C17 stud partition with lath and plaster,
later rear wing divided by a ridge stack, with late C19 roof
and wide oak floor boards. In the rear is a well.
