War memorial, retaining wall and
railings at Memorial Nurses' Home

GV II

War memorial, retaining wall and railings. 1921-23. Probably
by Evans, Cartwright & Woollett, architects of the Memorial
Nurses' Home (qv). Ashlar wall, with cast-iron railing and
bronze war memorial.
Retaining wall, approx 80m long, running in a slight curve
along the north side of Lenton Road, divided by pilasters and
topped with a cast-iron railing. To the left, 3 slightly
projecting bays divided by pilasters, containing a bronze
plaque flanked by wreaths and torches, forming the City and
County war memorial. To the left of this, the wall is stepped
back into the slope, and in front is a lower screen wall,
approx 20m long, with a central round-arched gateway flanked
by rusticated piers.
