Offices and shops. c1908, with late C20 alterations. By
Flockton & Gibbs, with relief panels by Tory Bros. White
faience facing and dressings, with red granite plinth. Roof
not visible.
EXTERIOR: plinth, pilasters, third floor sillband, cornice and
blocking course. 4 storeys plus a 5 storey cubic central
block; 5 window range. Windows are mainly wooden cross
casements. First floor has in each bay a cross casement French
window flanked by single light windows with transoms, fronted
by a wrought-iron balcony. French windows have enriched
segmental pediments flanked by roundels. Second floor has in
each bay a 2-light mullioned window flanked by single light
windows, all with transoms. Moulded lintel band. Third floor
has similar fenestration to the first floor, with swept
pediments to the French windows. Central block, 3 windows, has
similar fenestration to the second floor, with drip moulds to
the central windows. Frieze with Adam style ornament, and
moulded cornice. Arcaded ground floor has plain elliptical
arches, the central one a recessed entrance, the outer ones
with late C20 shopfronts. In the spandrels, low-relief panels
illustrating silversmithing, cutlery making, and other
Sheffield trades, with the monograms "W T F " and " A T H ".
