Terrace of 4 houses, with attached walls and railings. c1840,
with tower added c1865 by TC Hine of Nottingham. Red brick,
with stucco dressings and slate and concrete tile roofs, with
3 ridge and single gable stacks.
Plinth, quoins, elaborate dentillated eaves cornice. Windows
are mainly original plain sashes with moulded surrounds. 3
storeys; 8 window range. Each house has balustraded bay
window, 3 sashes, flanked to right by a round-arched doorway
with pilasters and cornice. No.19, to left, has the same bay
window raised to 2 storeys. On the first floor, sashes with
alternating triangular and segmental pediments. Above again,
smaller sashes. No.19 has at the rear a square tower with
continuous fenestration and wooden gallery on 3 sides.
Pyramidal roof and rear wall stack.
Across the front, and returned at each end, a retaining wall,
brick, mainly rendered, with ashlar coping. Each house has a
gateway with rusticated square piers with cornice caps. Nos
19-23 retain the original cast-iron spearhead railing.
The tower is said to have been added to give a view of the
racecourse on the Forest.
