Flounders' Folly

Folly, in form of square tower. Dated 1836. For Benjamin
Flounders. Sandstone rubble; roofless.
EXTERIOR: formerly approximately 24m in height, with dressed
stone battlements, now fallen. One or two embrasures to each
front; chamfered pointed arch to south-east front; tablet
inscribed: "B.F. 1836".
INTERIOR: remains of simple open-well staircase.
HISTORY: erected to mark meeting-point of 4 estates as
employment for the poor, by Benjamin Flounders of Medley Park.
An important landmark throughout the district.
