GV II

Lodge to Merlewood (qv). 1853. Roughcast with limestone
dressings and slate roof. 2 storeys. The north wall, facing
the driveway, has a one-bay gabled wing to the right. The
windows have glazing bars and stone surrounds. The ground
floor window has a hood mould and is of 3 lights with timber
mullions. The 1st-floor window has a triangular head
and central mullion. Set back to the left there is one bay
with a ground-floor window of 2 pointed lights separated by a
timber mullion, and a 1st floor dormer window which is treated
as a corbelled oriel. To the right, in the angle with the
gabled wing, is a deep gabled timber porch with glazed sides.
The left-hand return gable wall, facing east towards the main
road, is of one bay and has a timber canted bay window on the
ground floor and carved bargeboards. The rear gable wall of
the right-hand wing has a plaque dated '1853'.
