Pair of houses, now one house and 2 shops. Mid C17, mid-late
C19 facade, C20 shop fronts. Rendered, with part timber-framed
rear; rubble and brick party wall stacks and tiled roof.
PLAN: 1:2 bays parallel to street, with C18 rear left-hand
wing.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Pair of houses,
No.9 wider, unified behind a facade with round-ended
rusticated quoins, plain frieze and coved parapet coping
returning at the ends. Plate-glass shop windows with canted
ends, central door to wider left-hand shop, and left-hand door
to right-hand shop. First-floor sashes have 8/8 panes to the
right, 6/6-panes to the centre, and a square left-hand oriel
with 12 panes and side casements; 3/6-pane second-floor
sashes.
Rear of No.9 has a second-floor jettied gable and 2-light
mullion window, No.11 has a half-hipped roof with late C17
2-light gabled dormer with iron stays, fittings and leaded
lights.
Rear wing of 4 windows with cottage and stables, rubble with
stone slate roof, and segmental-arched heads to sashes.
Boarded and panelled doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but No.9 reported as having a C16 roof
with jowl posts, collar trusses and wind braces, No.11 has
chamfered ceiling beams and collar truss roof renewed C19,
with an extensive vaulted undercroft possibly C13.
HISTORICAL NOTE: probably originally a jettied front.
