House. Formerly dated 1707, at one time, probably late C19,
used as 2 cottages. Painted render over cob, thatched roof
with brick stacks to gable ends. Originally 3-unit plan,
extended by mid C20 unit to right.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range. C20 2-light casement
windows at eaves level, 2 early C19 6-over-6-pane sashes to
the ground-floor left, late C19 4-panel door and gabled tiled
porch on brackets to the centre with a casement window to far
right.
INTERIOR: the room to the ground-floor left has an open fire
with a timber lintel to the centre of the left-hand wall, a
chamfered cross-beam with ogee stops roughly cut away and C19
panelled shutters to the windows. The room above it has an
open fire to the front of the left-hand wall, an ogee-stopped
crossbeam and a plaster ornament to the ceiling consisting of
2 heartshapes, one with the letters 'T E M' to the centre, the
other with 1716. The room to the right has similar ornament to
the ceiling with 'A C 1707' in the heartshapes.
The pegged collar-truss roof with trenched purlins is hipped
to the former right end. The C18 plasterwork is a notable
example, typically continuing the C17 tradition.
