Bridge. 1869. One of a series built by Robert Smith, owner of
Goldings. Red and yellow brick, flint and stone dressings.
Elliptical arch with 3 headers of reds, alternating with stone
voussoirs, stone impost bands and stone triple keyblock with
outer arch of yellow headers. Flint panels in spandrels,
battered piers to abutments which have flint panels and red
brick quoins, stone band; cornice of chamfered cream header
bricks set alternatively upright and inverted. Red brick
corbel band and stone upper band, red panelled red brick piers
with moulded stone caps, low pyramidal tops. Stack bonded
brick balusters and stone copings.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Robert Smith inherited the Goldings Estate in
1861 and demolished the old mansion, diverting and
reconstructing the nearby Watton Turnpike, and building a
series of bridges in 1869 to carry the road, and the drive to
Goldings over the 'Goldings Canal' and mill race of the River
Beane.
