Terrace of 4 houses. Mid C19. Yellow-brown stock brick,
Flemish Bond, Welsh slated roof, 3 brick chimneystacks with
band and cream terracotta pots with cowl tops.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 6-bay front. First floor has 4 recessed
sash windows, with 6 pane divided glazing, beneath segmentally
cambered rubbed brick flat arches, with 2 smaller intermediate
sashes, above ground floor doors of Nos 42 & 44. 4 windows on
second floor - 2 casements at left replacing shallow 6-pane
sashes retained in 2 right-hand openings - heads tucked hard
against eaves soffit. Ground floor has 4 large 6-pane sashes;
doors to Nos 40 & 46 at extreme right and left, 6-panel
recessed in stucco surrounds with curved reveals, and 1 stone
step; doors to Nos 42 & 44 set between pairs of windows,
recessed 4 panel with top 2 arched and all with flat
projecting band surrounds, with plain glazed fanlights, with
curved stucco reveals, and slim pilaster surrounds with fascia
and projecting cornice hood over, stone step, threshold
stuccoed on No.42. Yorkstone flags to side passageway floor to
entrance to No.40.
INTERIOR: simple C19 details, newel stairs with stick
balusters and moulded handrails, 4-panel doors with scotia
moulded architraves, C19 fire surrounds with shelves carried
on consoles; second-floor rooms of attic character with
restricted headroom. The 2 inner houses, Nos 42 & 44, are
slightly larger with a cranked party wall giving a second
first-floor front bedroom.
