House, now 2 dwellings. Mid C18 (before 1784) with early C19
(before 1831) wings to the London Road front (north). Coursed
squared limestone rubble with dressed quoins, half-hipped
stone slate roof with 2 stone lateral stacks to the north of
the main block, painted ashlar and render to the later wings,
that to the left with a stone slate roof, that to the right
with double-Roman tiles.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range to the
original south front which has 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned
windows to the 1st floor. The north front has an 8/8-pane sash
window and 4-panel door to the right wing and a 10/10-pane
sash over paired 6/6-pane sashes to the ground-floor left.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the north garden is enclosed by an approx
2m high rubblestone wall attached to the left extending
forward for approx 10m to the street. The similar wall to the
right is partly demolished but the front wall sweeps boldly
down on both sides to central ashlar gate piers with pyramidal
tops which flank steps to the house. They are inscribed
"Albert Cottages"
