House. Medieval origins, C18 and 1848/52 by Bryan Browning of Stamford for
Burghley House estate. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston roof.
Originally probably a hall house, now L-shape plan. Part single storey, with
attic, and part 2 storeys. Main front of 3 bays, with cross-wing breaking
forward to right. Cross wing is C17 with medieval fragments. Tripartite sash to
first floor of gable end, under shallow stone arch, and C20 French doors to
ground floor, all with glazing bars. 2-window range of casements, under wood
lintels, to return wall of cross-wing. Bays to centre and right are mid C19,
with differing eaves levels to cross-wing. Centre bay has one-window range of
tripartite sash windows, with glazing bars, under stone lintels. First floor
window is under half dormer with hipped roof. Bay to right breaks forward with
gable over and has tall arch-head stair window. Lean-to porch, to right of this
bay, has arch-head doorway and part-glazed door. Stone and ashlar stacks at
ends. Rear elevation, to garden, has central canted bay window with sashes. Some
sash windows restored and renewed C20. Interior: some mid C19 fittings remain.
Reset octagonal medieval post in kitchen, with bracket.
