House. 1740s. For Isaac Wilkinson, ironmaster. Roughcast stone with slate
roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, the 1st bay possibly later. Windows have architraves
and are sashed with glazing bars, that to 3rd bay of ground floor replaced by
early C20 lean-to timber extension with casement window. Gable-end stacks and
cross-axial stack. Right return has 2 windows with small-paned fixed glazing
and opening panes. Entrance has flat slate canopy and 6-fielded-panel door,
2 now glazed, in moulded frame. Left return has C20 lean-to outhouse. Rear
has lean-to canopy to entrance, wall to right with door, connecting house with
outbuilding built against rock outcrop. Most windows have wooden mullioned
windows, chamfered to inside, and small-paned fixed glazing with opening panes,
2nd and 3rd bays of ground floor have C20 casements. Wide-boarded door has
battens and strap hinges, wooden handle. Outbuilding has lean-to roof,
small-paned fixed glazing to windows, small hearth, possibly for copper and
shallow sink with water pump. Interior has some fielded panelling with possibly
more under later cladding. Stair has square fluted newels, moulded handrail and
turned balusters. Some 2-fielded-panel doors with H-hinges.
