2/84 Stone Cottage

6.2.68 II

House, mid C18. Coursed, squared rubble with rusticated quoins. Graduated
slate roof with stone copings, kneelers, and end chimneys (one of which is a C20
rebuild). Symmetrical 2-storey, 5-bay front has wide part-glazed central door
in chamfered surround; 1751 date on lintel is C20, based on research by previous
owner. Four 2-light mullioned windows to ground floor, one 2-light and two 3-
light windows to 1st floor. All windows have glazing bars. Beamed interior has
original bracketed fireplace with C20 insert. Original dog-leg staircase has
square balusters on cut string; ramped handrail. Bottom newel has large acorn
finial.
