Built as shops and offices. c.1922 by T S Darbyshire and Fryer. Portland stone block,
slate roof. Four storeys, basements, attics and 2 tiers of dormers in steep mansard.
Classical style with Beaux Arts details. Ground floor with attached Doric columns and
pilasters carrying entablature; shop windows and doorways altered mid and late C20.
Symmetrical facade with slightly projecting centre: Window bays rhythm 4:9:4 with
splayed one-window corners and 7 window returns to Little Portland Street and Margaret
Street. Revealed metal casement windows, those on second floor with cornices and
pulvinated friezes. The 9 bay centre has a pedimented window to the centre of each
group of 3 on first and second floors. Sill courses and string courses. Pierced stone
balconies to second floor windows. Console bracketed main cornice and attic cornice.
Pedimented dormers above 9 bay centre. The steep mansard has bronze dressings and
ridge crestings.
