Spinning mill and adjoining cottage, now 3 houses. c.1783.
Remodelled c.1960. Built by the Robinson family. Coursed and
squared rubble and dressed stone, with concrete tile and slate
roofs. Partial rubble plinth. Crenellated parapet. Single
coped gable. 2 storeys plus basement. 6 unequal bays. Windows
are mainly mid C20 casements, those to front with projecting
architraves. North front has to left, mill building with 2
square crenellated corner towers, each with 2 roundels and above,
a quatrefoil, all blank. To left, basement has blocked door
flanked by single casements. To right, door. Above, 5
casements on each floor. To right, C20 door with hood. Above,
2 casements. To right again, cottages with casement flanked to
left by door and to right by French window, with lean-tohood.
Above, large square bay with 3 casements, flanked by single
smaller casements. West gable has a casement on each floor.
South side has to left, door and French window. To right,
segmental recess containing French window and to its right,
casement. Above, 4 casements. Above again, 2 casements. To
right, French window with balcony, and a casement. Mill south
side has to left 2 round headed tailrace openings. Above them, 5
French windows with segmental heads. To right, 4 casements.
above, 9 casements. Above again, 3 casements and French window
with balcony. To right, 5 casements. East gable has to left,
mid C20 square qlazed opening. To right, casement and remains of
wheel pit and flanking walls. Above, 2 casements on each floor.
Refitted interior has softwood span beams. This building is one
of a number of spinning mills erected by the Robinson family in
the late C18.
