House. Dated 1753. Brick with plain tile roof. 2 storeys in 3 bays. Central
fielded panel door with HL hinges within panelled reveals. Fluted pilasters
to door case support Doric frieze below Doric pediment. One sash window left
and right with glazing bars beneath gauged skewback arches. Flat brick string
course between storeys. 3 first floor sashes with glazing bars below gauged
skewback arches. Plain parapet above string course. In centre of parapet
datestone : Win. C. Allen 1753. Gabled roof with internal end stacks. 3
flat-topped dormers with casements. Gable heads with tumbling. Rear cross
wing hipped to east. One C19 sash window to ground floor and 2 sashes to
first floor, all with glazing bars and beneath gauged skewback arches.
Internal west stack. West gable with tumbling. To right and left additions
under catslide roof. Interior. Entrance hall retains timber fire surround
with carved overmantel decorated by a carved escutcheon bearing 3 battering
rams (arms of Bertie family). Over the whole a coved set-back segmental arch
with egg and dart details. Open cut staircase with floral tread ends, bobbin
turned balusters and wreathed handrail. In kitchen 2 bridging beams with
tongue stops.
