House. 1877, converted to 5 flats in 1965. White brick under
slate roof. Facade is a 4-window range.
2 storeys and dormer attic. Doorway in third bay: 4-panelled
door with a stuccoed surround consisting of fluted pilasters
rising to foliated consoles supporting hood; curvilinear
fanlight with foliated spandrels. Two 6/6 horned sashes to
ground floor (that to left of entrance with external shutters)
and a tripartite sash immediately to left of doorway, all
under gauged skewback arches. String course between floors.
Four 6/6 horned sashes with gauged skewback arches and
external shutters to first floor. Hipped roof carrying 3
decorated stacks. To front are 3 pedimented dormers with
glazed cheeks and casements.
Rear elevation of 3 storeys and dormer attic. 2 large canted
bays dominate, fitted with 1/1 horned sashes to ground floor,
and 6/6 horned sashes to upper floor. One pedimented dormer
with casements and glazed cheeks.
INTERIOR: staircase blocked from entrance hall and now reached
from door in north return: cast-iron balusters with
bifurcating scrolls and waterleaf nibs; ramped and wreathed
handrail terminating in heavy newel posts. Rear north room
(ground floor) with large-framed panelling and Corinthian
modillion cornice. Rear south room with re-used material
inserted at construction: 2 early C16 bridging beams with
ribbon and vine-trail carving and double ogee stops;
small-framed early C17 panelling on all walls; mid C17 stone
fireplace with decorated jambs and a mantel carved with
Mannerist figures, lions' heads and foliage trails, all in low
relief. Mid C17 timber chimneypiece composed of a pair of
reeded and fluted pilasters rising to an overmantel with 5
panels, the centre one arched. Above pilasters are 2 nude
female half-figures carved in high relief, one either side.
Continuous arcading to top rail and cornice.
