House. Early C19. Painted render and pebbledash over brick, with
some stone dressings. Tiled roof with coped gables. Double-depth
plan with main facade facing south and with 3 gables to rear. The
facade is of 2 storeys plus an attic storey with blind recesses,
of 3 bays, and has chamfered quoins. The windows are glazing bar
sashes with plain reveals and projecting sills. The central
doorway has pilaster strips, brackets supporting a flat moulded
stone hood which carries an added timber hood, and 2 external
sandstone steps with nosings. The door is of 3 panels, now
glazed, and has a fanlight. At the rear of the main range are 2
large chimney caps. Interior. Extensive barrel-vaulted cellars.
The doors are mostly of 6 raised and fielded panels and some
original fireplaces remain. The ground and first-floor rooms to
the front and left-hand side have plain plaster cornices. Arched
openings with plaster mouldings lead off the stairwell on each
storey: the ground-floor hallway has 2 arches. The open-well
staircase rises to attic level. The lower flight has an open
string with shaped tread brackets and the upper flights have
closed strings. The turned newels and ramped handrails are of
walnut. The treads are of oak and the stick balusters are
painted.
