4/87 Langstone Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Circa mid to late C17 extended in late C19. Stone rubble. Slate roof
with hipped ends and parallel range to rear with hipped ends. Two rendered rear
lateral stacks to earlier range incorporated as axial stacks when the house was
extended to rear. The rear range has a central stone rubble axial stack.
Plan: Original plan probably of 2-room and cross or through passage arrangement, the
two rooms heated by rear lateral stacks. It is possible that there was a stair to
rear of the passage or possibly one that was added shortly after, being incorporated
in the later range when the house was extended to rear in the circa late C19 with a
service range.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window front. The central entrance has
a C19 6-panel door with a chamfered C17 timber lintel with ogee stops. Slate hood.
To left and right two C20 windows with dressed stone voussoirs to the arches. On the
first floor are two C19 3-light casements flanking a C20 window, each of the window
openings with chamfered lintels with ogee stops.
Battered plinth to left hand side.
Rear elevation with dressed stone arches and brick jambs to the openings.
Interior: Wide cross passage. Left hand room has a fireplace with an unmoulded
timber lintel and a C20 grate. Interior only partially inspected.
