Description

TQ 67 41 BRENCHLEY HIGH STREET, BRENCHLEY
(south side)
15/136 Park Cottage

GV II

House. Probably early C18. Tile-hung on brick footings; peg-tile roof; brick
stack.

Plan: The house faces north, directly on to the High Street. Lobby entrance
plan, 2 rooms wide, with a rear outshut and central entrance. C20 entrance on
the left return, into the outshut. A single-storey block, slightly set back
at the right end was described as an "oasthouse" in 1949 (old List
Description) and has been re-fronted and absorbed into the house.

Exterior: 2 storeys. Gable-ended roof to the main block. Moulded fascia at
first floor level. Symmetrical 3-window front with a C19 central panelled
front door under a horizontal porch hood. Good set of probably original C18
iron casements with square leaded panes: 3-light in the outer bays, first and
ground floor, with a one-light window over the front door. The right end
block is tile hung (was weatherboarded in 1949) with a 3-light casement and a
lean-to roof. The left (east) return of the main block has a C20 stable door
into the outshut with a 4-pane fixed window alongside, and preserves what is
probably another original C18 2-light casement with a later attic window and
one C20 window with square leaded panes.

Interior: Not available for inspection at time of survey (1989).
