Group of 9 doubledecker houses, unoccupied. c1800. 2 builds. Hawmer-dressed
stone, stone slate roofs. 3 storeys to Station Road, 2 storeys to Chapel Hill
(rear). Station Road elevation has 6 bays. 1st bay canted following road
alignment. Each bay has doorway with tie-stone jambs and overlapping lintels
all blocked. Doorways to bays 4 and 5 are paired together and share a common
jamb. All windows have plain-stone surrounds with overlapping lintels and
projecting sills. First 3 bays and ground floor of rest have single-light
windows. 4th, 5th and 6th bays have 2-light flat-faced mullioned windows to
1st and 2nd floors. Square, evenly-spaced gutter brackets. Bays 1, 2 and 3
under lower roof have 2 brick ridge stacks (renewed). Other range has gable
brick stack and one other to ridge. Rear: 6 bays each bay having doorway with
tie-stone jambs to left of single-light window excepting bays 4, 5 and 6 which
have shop fronts, that to bay 4 possibly original with outer wooden Doric
pilasters, entablature and cornice. 1st floor: first 4 bays have 2-light window.
Bays 5 and 6 have single-light. Left-hand return (front Morley Bottoms) has
original shop window with segmental bow and fluted pilasters with single-light
window above. Coped gable.
Of similar style and date to Crank Mills (q.v.) near by.
