School, now Youth centre, and Master's, now Caretaker's,House. Dated 1844.
Coursed squared stone, stone slate roof. Single-storey, 6-bay, double-depth
school range at front linked by later ranges (not of special interest) to
Master's House to rear right which has T-shaped plan of 2 storeys, each wing
2 bays.
School range: quoins. The two left bays have a shallow gabled projection with
further central projecting gabled door surround: steps up to studded board door
with decorative iron hinges in chamfered Tudor-arched surround; shield embossed
'BOYS' in gable which has concave kneelers, coping and pyramidal finial; narrow
windows flank doorway; the gable above has datestone in architrave, corner
pinnacles and coping. The rest of the range has windows of alternately 1 and 2
lights with quoined surrounds and hoodmoulds. Gutter brackets. 2-span roof
with concave kneelers and coping. Left return: two 1-light windows to each gable
with cross-window between at higher level. Right return: a cross-window and narrow
slit to each gable; single-storey additions not of special interest.
Master's House: west front: quoins; cross-wing projects on right; 2-light
window on left of studded door with decorative hinges in quoined arched surround
with fanlight; narrow window over door; gutter brackets; concave kneelers;
ashlar coping. Left return: a 2-light window to each floor. Right return (cross-
wing): a 3-light and 1-light window to ground floor with inserted door on right;
on 1st floor two 2-light windows under gables. Range set back further to right
not of special interest.
