GV II
Former farmhouse. Circa early C17 core with addition of the C19 and addition
and alterations of the C20. The early core is close-studded framed
construction, the ground floor underbuilt in brick and the first floor
weatherboarded on the front elevation; peg-tile roof; brick stacks.
Plan: T-plan. The main block faces west and consists of a fragment, one-
room, of an early C17 house with a stack at the south end. The C17 house
probably extended further to the south and had a lobby entrance plan. The
south part of the house has been replaced by an outshut and set of
outbuildings. At the north end there is a 2-phase crosswing, C19 at the front
(west) and 1950s at the rear (east). Present entrance into the C19 wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Irregular 1:1:1 window west elevation; one-window to
the C19 wing, which projects to the front at the left, one window to the C17
block in the middle and one window to the outshut at the right (south) end.
Front door into 1960s lean-to porch on the inner (south) return of the C19
wing. The wing has a canted bay on the ground floor glazed with small-pane
casements with margin glazing; 16-pane first floor sash. The main block also
has a 16-pane first floor sash and an 18-pane fixed window to the ground
floor. Small-pane casement to the outshut. The rear elevation preserves some
close-studded framing on the first floor.
Interior: The C17 room has a chamfered stopped axial beam and exposed joists.
Original open fireplace with an oak lintel.
First floor and roofspace not inspected, roof timbers said to be C20
replacements (information from the owner).
