Chest Tomb. 1801. Ashlar. Raised stone slab on panelled base with fluted
pilasters to corners and to centre.

Finely-carved stone with trumpeting angels set in spandrels of arched top.
Inscribed:
" Sacred
to the MEMORY of
MICHAEL WOOD Esqr. of Tingley
House who (meeting with an
Accident here when a Young
Man, which nearly proved fatal
to him) requested to be interred
upon the spot. He died Dec 31st
1801 in the 81st Year of his Age "

Carved in the local style of the 1730s.
