Farmhouse. C16 with major C17 and C18 alterations, modernised circa 1979.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick;
thatched roof. Much-altered 3-room-and-through-passage plan house built down a
slope and facing south with former inner room on uphill right (east) end.
Projecting rear lateral stack to service end room and axial stack at upper end of
hall serves back-to-back fireplaces. Circa 1972 rear additions. 2 storeys.
Irregularly disposed 3-window front of similar late C19 and C20 replacement
casements with glazing bars. Passage door left of centre is late C19 plank door
with overlight (a similar door to rear) and late C19 gabled porch with shaped
bargeboards and replacement corrugated iron roof and sides. Roof is hipped to left
and gable-ended to right. Service end stack has tall chimney shaft of C19 brick. left
Interior shows work of several periods. On lower side of former passage a short
length of a C17 oak plank-and-muntin screen is exposed; its muntins chamfered with
scroll stops. Similar finish to half beam across service room chimney breast.
Service room has late C17 crossbeam and fireplace; former is unstopped with deep
chamfer and large rubble fireplace has plain oak lintel resting on oak pads and
includes stone oven to left and a seat on right side. Hall has 2 late C16-early and
chamfered and roll stopped crossbeams. Stack at upper end probably much rebuilt in
late C18-early C19. Roof inaccessible but lower parts of principals are exposed
indicating that a late C17 or C18 A-frame truss roof survives.
