Sunday school building for the Lewisham United Reformed Church (formerly Lewisham
Congregational Church). 1880-1, George Sherrin. Two-storeys. Ragstone with slate roof.
Prominent central fleche spire. 'L'shaped plan with apse at either end. Perpendicular Gothic
style. Courthill Road elevation: mullion and transom windows: two on upper storey with gablets
breaking through roof, two on ground floor. Large seven-light Perpendicular window set into
gable end, with three small flat-arched windows below divided by short buttresses. Central
entrance with porch. Three-sided apses at west and south ends. Flat-arched mullion and transom
windows on ground and upper floor divided by full-height buttresses. INTERIOR: Open
double-height galleried hall with apse. Compartmented timber roof Galleries carried on simple
square columns. Open arcades on east and west sides above galleries: shallow arches springing from
moulded and tapered piers with Flemish detail. Three-sided apse at south end panelled below the
window.
