Inn, built in 2 stages in mid C16, with a rear stable range added c.1600. 2
storeys. Timber-framed and pebble-dashed. Plaintiled roof with axial and
rear chimneys of red brick. C19 sash windows, most having small panes. A
pair of mid C19 splayed bays to Station Road have large-pane sashes. C19 6-
panelled entrance door, the upper 4 panels glazed; a pentice on brackets
above. An unused entrance door to Coddenham Road has a moulded architrave and
cornice of late C18 or early C19. The main frontage was originally to
Coddenham Road. To left is an early C16 2-cell building, formerly long-wall
jettied to the street; the hall has roll-moulded joists and main beams, the
service cell to left unmoulded exposed framing. Plain crownpost roof. To
right is a later C16 2-cell building also formerly jettied towards the street,
with clasped-purlin roof. A rear range of stabling with loft above was added
c.1600; exposed arch-braced studwork, the roof partly renewed in C19; mainly
weatherboarded, the plaintiled roof mainly replaced with corrugated iron.
