Range of farm buildings forming an arc on the north-east side of the farmyard, the
left-hand section built into the hillside. C19 or earlier; the bank barn and the
thatched shippon to right of the gatehouse may be C17 or C18. Granite rubble, the
lower part of the bank barn build of very large pieces of granite; upper storey of
gatehouse rebuilt in concrete block. The 2 left-hand buildings have roofs covered
with corrugated iron, hipped on the left. Bank barn is slated and hipped on the
right. Gatehouse roof is covered with corrugated asbestos. Shippon to right is
thatched with hip at right-hand end. The left-hand building has large double doors
and appears to have been a barn. The second building from left was a stable with
loft over. The third building from left, the best of the group, was a bank barn
with 3 small doorways in ground storey. In centre of upper storey is a small
doorway built into a much larger, partly blocked opening with a heavy wood lintel;
in front of it is a flight of concrete steps. To the left are 3 rows of pigeon-
holes extending right across that side of the barn, while to the right are 4 similar
rows at a slightly lower level. In rear wall is a wide doorway matching that at the
front; slit window to right of it. Adjoining the bank barn to right, set back a
little, is a covered gateway with a small 2 storeyed building incorporated into its
left-hand side. To the right of the gateway, set back again, is a shippon with loft
over. It has had a series of openings with brick arches in the ground storey, now
mostly blocked.
Interiors have few details of interest. The bank barn and the shippon have
chamfered upper floor beams. Roof trusses appear to be C20, except for shippon
which has C18 or early C19 trusses with the collars pegged to the faces of the
principal rafters.
In centre of yard is a large granite water trough; this is separately listed.
