Description

The following building shall be added:

ASHMORE
ST91llV GREEN LANE, Well Bottom
364-0/11/10004 Magna Cottage

11
Pair of attached cottages and outbuilding, now one house. C18, extended in C19 and C20.
Flint and random stone rubble with brick dressings, partly rendered at rear. Wheat-reed
thatched roof with gabled ends. Brick axial and gable-end stacks. PLAN: The original
1-room plan cottage appears to be at the left [south west] end; the centre 1-room plan part
would have been added in the C19, possibly as a separate cottage and the right end was
probably a later C19 outbuilding extension. There is a further small single-storey outhouse
on the right end and a C20 single-storey extension at the back. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys.
Asymmetrical 3-window south east front with 3 C19 2-light casements to first floor and one
3-light casement and two C20 2-light casements to ground floor. Plank door on left and
C20 glazed door to right of centre. All in brick openings with cambered brick arches. At
right end the later C19 outbuilding has storey-posts with straight braces and weatherboarded
gable-end. INTERIOR: Left room has chamfered cross-beam and large fireplace with
cambered timber lintel. Centre room has unchamfered cross-beam and fireplace with
cambered timber lintel and an oven.
