Celtic Cross. Erected in 1851 by Sir William Erle, Chief Justice of the Common
Pleas, at a period when the Gibbet stone had been removed from its original
position. Cornish granite cross on conglomerate base. Tapering shaft, approx
8 foot high with round cross top. Scroll carving on base at front. Inscribed:
"POST TENEBRAS LUX" and "POST OBITUM SAWS", "IN OBITU PAX" and "IN LUC SPEC".
