Dated 1850. Broken column on tall plinth with inscription in panel: WORKING
MEN'S MONUMENT. This column was erected by the voluntary subscriptions of
999 inhabitants of Wakefield and neighbourhood to the late Joseph Horner Jr,
corn miller of this tour, as a testimonial of the high respect and esteem with
which they regarded him for his unflinching, persevering and consistent advocacy
of the religious, moral, social and political rights and liberties of the people.
