Description

COLEBROOKE LOWER COOMBE
SS 70 SE
3/137 Rick Park
-
GV II

House, formerly 2 cottages. Circa 1840-50. Plastered cob on rubble footings;
stone rubble stacks with original stone rubble chimney shafts, one heightened with
C20 brick. Corrugated asbestos roof over original thatch.
Originally a pair of cottages facing south comprising a 1-room and a 2-room plan
cottage. Since they have been joined it is not possible to tell which end was the
larger cottage. Right (east) end projecting stack and axial stack serving left
(west) end room. 2 storeys.
Symmetrical 5-window front of original cast iron framed casements, 3 lights to
ground floor and 2 lights to first floor (the central blind) and all preserving the
iron glazing bars which form a hexagonal lattice pattern with narrow margin panes.
Original doorways to right and left of central window contain plank doors with
vertical cover strips. The front plasterwork has faintly-inscribed ashlar finish.
Roof is gable-ended to right, hipped to left. Circa 1984 plastered buttresses on
right end. Rear elevation has only stair windows with iron glazing bars in same
style as front and a central doorway with C20 tiled monopitch hood.
Little-modernised interior with original joinery. All carpentry is plastered over.
