7/12 Low Risby Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C18 or earlier origins with 1813 south front by William Fowler
of Winterton for Robert Holgate. Later C19 and C20 alterations, including
rear entrance porch. Front in squared limestone rubble with brick
dressings. Pantile roof. T-shaped on plan: central entrance hall front
with rear wing incorporating former cottage. 2 storeys, 3 bays;
symmetrical. Doric doorcase with pilasters supporting open dentilled
pediment; C20 2-leaf glazed doors under original radial fanlight in reveal.
Ogee-headed ashlar niches for bootscrapers to either side. 12-pane ground
floor sashes, C19 4-pane sashes to first floor, all with stucco cambered
arches and projecting sills. Hipped roof. Central stack to rear. Right
return: rear wing has C17 - early C18 2-light ovolo-mullioned ashlar cellar
window in chamfered reveal. Interior: open well closed-string staircase
with moulded handrail, column-on-vase balusters with square knops and
moulded dado; cornices and beaded-panel doors and window shutters to front
