Large house, later children's home. Built in 1929 by M H Baillie Scott in Arts and Crafts style. Main part of house in brown brick in English bond with large diaper patterns in black brick. Service wing has ground floor of brick and eclectic timberframed upper floors with rendered infill. Tiled roof with tall brick chimneystacks. Main part of house is roughly H-shaped. Two to three storeys with irregular fenestration, mainly casement windows with leaded lights but with five pointed arched windows and a circular window with six triangular panes with stained glass. A few windows have lost their leaded lights. Front elevation has three projecting gables, including two storey entrance porch with datestone, sandstone four centred arched doorcase and triple pointed sidelights with stained glass. Attached brown brick wall with two gatepiers and wooden gate divides principal rooms from service wing. Service wing has two projecting gables, casement windows with leaded lights and plank door under penticed hood. Rear elevation of main part is of symmetrical design with two end projecting gables with attached brick conservatories and loggias. Hipped dormers to recessed centre. Interior has very high quality internal features and fittings in the Arts and crafts style which are almost entirely intact. These features include oak panelling and decorative joinery to the hallway, landing and all principal rooms, decorative joinery to chimneypieces and a carved screen. Decorative plaster ceilings to all principal rooms by J C Pocock. Fireplaces include stone four centred arched fireplace with Jacobean style carved overmantel and one with blue and white tiles.
