II
House. Late C18 with early and later C19 alterations. Pebble
dashed rubble stone with gritstone dressing, concrete tiles to
front, stone slates to rear, and stone gable stacks.
PLAN: L-plan.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with 2-storey wing. Garden front has
3-window range. Central doorway with half-glazed double panel
doors, under projecting gabled porch with stone slate roof. To
left a 2 storey wooden canted bay window with flat lead roof
and 2/2 and plain sashes. To right a 2/2 sash with Tudor
hoodmould and similar sash above. Central 2/2 sash window
between first and second floors. Top floor has either side a
single 2-light sliding sash with glazing bars and Tudor
hoodmoulds.
Left return has single 2/2 sash to each floor, and rear wing
has single 3/6 sash to each floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
This is probably the building referred to by Pilkington in
1789 as being in course of erection for Dr Norton.
