School. Dated 1825. Stucco on brick or rubble with exposed Coade stone detail.
Slate roof. Large gable-ended rectangular block with west-facing gable-end front.
Single storey. Front articulated in the manner of a portico of 6 approximately
Doric half-columns supporting a plain entablature and gable end. The columns,
which are unfluted, stand on a granite stylobate of 3 steps extending to 6 at the
right end. Between the half-columns 5 architraves with pediments on brackets;
those to left and right extending to the bottom as doorways with 12-pane overlights
and the 3 between containing sash windows with 24 panes above and 4 below.
Entablature inducts the legend Sandford School M.DCC.XXV. in large semi-bold serif
capitals. The low pitch roof is carried forward as deep eaves probably replacing
pediment. 4-window sides of high 2-light windows with 2 sets of mullions and
glazing bars. The returns of the portico are marked on either flank as indents.
Extensions excluded.
