Description

SS 62 SW SATTERLEIGH AND
WARKLEIGH
3/189 Shortridge Farmhouse
-

- II

Farmhouse. Possibly 1669 by sundial but earlier fabric possibly concealed.
Roughcast rendered stone rubble and cob. Asbestos slate roof, gable end to left,
half-hipped to right end. Rendered stack at left gable end and 2 tall rendered
lateral stacks to rear of hall and lower end.
Plan: 3-room and cross-passage plan, with C19 staircase to rear of passage, hall
and inner room beyond to left, lower end to right with front wing of 1-room plan now
used for farm storage creating overall L-shaped plan. C19 and C20 outshuts to rear.
2 storeys. 4-window range. Late C19 or early C20 fenestration, variously paned 2-
light casement to upper storey, ground floor has tripartite 6-paned sash with 2-
paned sidelight sashes to hall and twin 2-paned sashes to inner room. C20 gabled
glazed porch with brick plinth close to the angle of the front wing. Slate sundial
over hall window dated 1669 and initialled 1L.
Brief interior inspection suggested C19 joinery including panelled doors and
staircase completely intact. Rough thin chamfered cross ceiling beam to lower end.
Roof not inspected, but exposed chamfered timber wall plate suggests eaves have been
heightened.
