(Formerly Listed as:
ADELAIDE TERRACE
Nos.1-19 (Consecutive))
GV II
Terrace of houses. Probably c1847-50 in more than one build
(only Nos 17, 18 and 19 are shown on OS map surveyed in 1847);
altered. Painted stucco, slate roofs. Double-depth plan, each
house single-fronted except Nos 13 and 16 which are
double-fronted; with back extensions.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics except Nos 10 and 11 which have
a full attic storey, 3 windows each except Nos 13 and 16 which
have 4 windows; with a plinth, giant Doric pilasters between
houses (and matching pilasters to attic storey of Nos 10 and
11), string course and moulded 1st-floor sill-band, frieze
with string course and prominent moulded cornice
(discontinuous between Nos 3 and 4, and at Nos 17 to 19 where
No.18 in the centre also has a pediment). Nos 3 to 8, built in
halls-adjoining pairs, have doorways adjoining, Nos 9 to 12
all have doorways to the left, and Nos 13 to 19 have doorways
less regularly disposed; all these doorways are square-headed
with panelled doors (except No.12 which is plain) and
overlights which are plain except those at Nos 13, 14 and 16
which have margin panes. The windows are almost uniform: those
at Nos 3 to 14 have sunk-panel aprons at ground floor but
otherwise plain reveals (those at No.8 with built-in
ornamental canopies) and those at Nos 16 to 19 have simple
architraves; almost all are sashed without glazing bars but
those at Nos 9, 12, 14 and 15 have margin panes, and those at
ground floor of Nos 3 and 15 now have top-hung casements
imitating sashes. Nos 10 and 11 have square sashed windows at
2nd floor; No.18 has a square window in the pediment (now
furnished with a C20 tilting casement). Flat-roofed dormers
have been inserted at Nos 3 to 8 and No.12, while all the
others have skylights. Corniced chimneys on front slope.
INTERIORS: not inspected.

the listed buildings in Adelaide Terrace, together with those
