Pair of houses, now shops and offices. Early C18 with C20
shopfronts. No.13 of painted brick, No.14 colour-washed
stucco, with rusticated quoin strips and dressings of painted
stone; timber moulded cornice beneath pantile roof.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey, 5-bay front, centre bay breaking forward
between giant order Composite pilasters. Rusticated central
doorway in keyed round-arched hollow-chamfered doorcase
beneath moulded cornice. Flanking shopfronts framed in
sunk-panel pilasters, deep frieze and moulded cornice between
grooved consoles with rounded caps. First floor centre window
is unequal 15-pane sash, with moulded keyblock interrupting
raised second floor band and floating segmental pediment.
Remaining windows are unequal 15-pane sashes to No.13, 12-pane
sashes elsewhere, those on second floor of No.14 possibly
original. All windows have painted sills. Plain frieze and
projecting moulded eaves cornice on block brackets, with
inverted bell rainwater heads at each end, left one embossed
TD 1763.
INTERIOR: not inspected. RCHM records original staircases with
turned balusters, that to No.13 incomplete.
