Station House
II
Small railway station-master's house, now house. Probably
c1848, for the Liverpool, Crosby and Southport Railway
Company. White-painted render on brick, red tiled roof.
Single-depth double-fronted plan parallel to railway track and
very close to it, with a small side wing at each end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and 2 windows, symmetrical. The ground
floor has a Tudor-arched doorway in the centre, with a C20
part-glazed door under a shallow fanlight without glazing
bars, flanked by 3-light wooden mullion windows with top-hung
casement openings in the centre lights. The upper floor has
4-pane sashes above these windows, and a raised square plaque
in the centre, with a moulded surround but no visible
inscription. Roof with oversailing barges pierced by gable
chimneys, that at the left (west) end of brown brick, tall,
with a cornice, but the other cut down and rendered. Small
single-storey side wings, that to the left with a window and
that to the right with a doorway. Rear and interior not
inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: probably Crosby's first railway station.
Interesting survival of very simple early railway
architecture, comparable with two other surviving examples in
Southport (e.g.No.57A Portland Street).
