Shop and cottage. C16 and early C17. Timber-framed and
rendered with plain tile roofs; ridgeline stack behind
juncition of roofs.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with cross wing at south-east end: gabled
to street and recessed block parallel to street, with higher
ridgeline and continuous with Nos 140 and 142 (qv). The
cross-wing has barge-boards; 1st floor has a 16-pane sash
window with moulded surround. The ground floor has a 12-pane
sash. The 1st floor of the recessed block has a 20-pane sash
window over a C20 shop front with fascia, blind box, display
window of 2 large panes and a glazed door.
The south-east flank of cross-wing has a 3-light, small-paned
horizontally-sliding casement on the ground floor, and the
roof is hipped to the rear, where the render is ashlared.
16-pane sash window on 1st floor of wing at rear and
slate-roofed rear lean-to extension with tall rear wall.
INTERIOR: the cross-wing is of 3 bays with jowled storey
posts; probably a parlour/solar wing, the rear bay on 1st
floor is partitioned from the 2-bay front chamber. Wall studs
are closer on the exposed south-east elevation and there seem
to have been a double window with central stud on the 1st
floor of front elevation. The 1st floor of the adjoining
block, on former hall site, has a blocked C17 arched
fireplace. The rear lean-to has early C19 door with margin
glazing and plaster cornice.
