GV II

Cottage. Early C17 with C20 additions. Timber-framed and
rendered with gabled plain tile roof; tall external stack on
south-east flank and similar stack now breaking through ridge
against C20 extension.
EXTERIOR: single storey with attic; 3-window range;
pantile-roofed rear lean-to and lean-to C20 car port on
south-east flank with black weatherboarded gable. Front has 3
gabled dormers, each with C20 two-light casement, and one roof
light. Ground floor has projecting porch with plain tile
lean-to roof and C20 boarded door with side lights. Either
side are 16-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds. C20
lateral extension of the cottage with one of the dormer
windows and a garage door opening with cambered arch. To the
rear of this a C20 two-storey extension into garden, the
roofline of which is visible over original ridge.
INTERIOR: good quality timber-frame of 3 equal bays with
lambs-tongue-stopped bridging joists. Central 2 posts on each
wall are unjowled and tie beams form A-frame roof. Some reused
timber and roof largely of good reused rafters, some with
thickening towards tops. 2 corner cupboards, one small
cupboard with serpentine shelves and one larger cupboard from
elsewhere in county.
