Description

LEEDS

SE3132 GOODMAN STREET, Hunslet
714-1/44/866 (North side)
21/11/95 Mill range attached to west side of
No.21A

GV II

Mill range. Mid-late C19. Brick, English bond, slate roof,
gable coping left. 4 storeys, 9 bays. Slightly segmental brick
arches to windows. A straight join in the brickwork at
junction with Victoria Works mill range (qv).
OS map 1847 shows a range with cart entrance; this is possibly
a rebuild of the original range on the same site, but EJ
Connell states (thesis, 1975) that these are basically as
built by 1840. 1902 Insurance map shows 'brick-arched 2nd
floor'. No cart entrance. Perhaps a rebuild of the original
Goodman Street entrance range when the new entrance block,
Victoria Mills, was built on Atkinson Street (qv) for Titley
and Co, c1865.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
For historical information see Victoria Works range (qv).
(Connell EJ, University of Leeds (unpublished PhD thesis):
Industrial Development in South Leeds, 1790-1914: 1975-).
