Sheepscar.
Board school. 1897. By WS Braithwaite. Red brick, ashlar and
carved stone details, slate roof. 3 storeys over basement, 8 x
2 bays. Renaissance Revival style.
Symmetrical facade, entrance in projecting bays 2 and 7:
recessed doorway, round-arched porch, paired fluted pilasters,
keystone and brackets to deep entablature with recessed
panels, cornice and pediment, tall segmental-arched stair
window above, blind arcade, pyramid roof with small cupola.
Segmental- and flat-arched windows, with transoms and mullions
to 1st floor, centre, moulded string courses, centre 2 bays
have ornate Dutch-style gables with ball finials. Semicircular
pediments over bays 1 and 7 and on right return, arcaded
parapet.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Designed by the last School Board architect.
