Formerly known as: Harehills HAREHILLS LANE Potternewton.
Country house, now college. Early C19. Coursed squared
gritstone, roof not visible.
2 storeys, 3 bays with 3,1,3 windows. Central glazed door in
plain surround with margin lights under a semicircular portico
with 4 Ionic columns supporting entablature and cornice,
wrought-iron balcony railing above. Centre window, 1st floor,
is a glazing-bar sash with margin lights in architrave with
entablature and cornice. Flanking ground and 1st-floor windows
are sashes of 18 and 15 panes with continuous sill bands.
Eaves cornice and balustraded parapet with oval recess centre;
4 evenly spaced banded stacks.
INTERIOR: reputed to retain original plasterwork including
modillion ceiling cornices, moulded door surrounds.
Built for James Brown and called 'Harehills Grove'; also in
the C19 'Harehills', the home of John Jowitt, a Quaker
industrialist.
