Offices. c1900, altered C20. Possibly by WH Thorp. Ashlar,
grey slate roof, wrought-iron railings. 3 storeys and attic
over basement, 3 bays. Banded rustication to ground floor.
Entrance right with attached columns supporting segmental
broken pediment, semicircular overlight. Wide segmental-arched
window centre with hollow chamfered surround and female mask
on keystone; narrower window left. Bowed 3-part central
windows to upper floors have attached Ionic columns flanked by
sashes in elaborate eared and shouldered architraves with
pediments to 1st floor. Balustraded parapet across front of
attic window with segmental pediment and relief of a phoenix.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Similar detailing to Thorp's YMCA building in Albion Place
(qv).
